I spent last weekend coaching my daughter's softball team. This is a very serious team - practicing all winter and braving the cold rains of Oregon springtime just for a change to hit the ball. Last weekend, we played our first night game. Her messy hair gives a hint that this is the 3rd game of the day. In spite of that, I love the calm look on Jamie's face. She is simply relaxing, taking in the thrill of the lights. And a little light flair to add to the composition. :)
From some of the feedback, I did a bit more editing. I'm amazed at how a little edit makes a difference! Here is how it looks with the suggestions:
Original version
Lights in lower right removed.
Increased blue saturation and reduced red saturation
Further cropped to increase focus on her face
Here from Photo Feedback.
ReplyDeleteWhat a thrilling shot. It's so clean with your upward angle only showing her and the lights. I like that you pointed out the detail of her hair and where she was in her day.
I would suggest taking her out of center and moving her close to the left of the frame. It would give a sense of her hopes to really hit it out there and would give the photo a bit more tension.
It's a great shot with inherent memories for her to treasure and show off. I love the crispness of the black background. Good work.
Sorry... I just wanted to say that when I viewed the photo large, because of the black background, it made her look more centered since it blended together. Now I see that she's not. :-P So... good work! ha ha
Thanks for the feedback, Kel. I really appreciate. I did play with further cropping, but it starts showing a good bit of grain on her face. The cropped version (along with other suggested improvements) is posted back to my blog if you are interested. Thanks for the feedback.

Julie thank you for joining in again. :) This shot is really cool. I love the light you captured. The contrast of her being so bright against the black sky is fantastic. The sharpness is wonderful. I love the light flare, too. My only suggestion on this would be to maybe clone out the bottom two light flare pieces. I love the ones coming off of the light post, but the ones at the bottom keep pulling my eye over there. But that is all I have got for you. This shot is super cool!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kim. You were totally right. I removed those errant lights and it looks much better. The new version is posted to my blog if you are interested. Thanks again for the feedback.

ReplyDeleteThanks Allison, for visiting my blog. I'm sure we are all going to build a more critical eye as we continue our feedback group. Hopefully it will make us all better photographers!

Great job, this is simply an awesome shot! Since you've already done all the improvements, it's hard to come up with anything else... but just to comment them, I think the added blue saturation was a really good idea, it works extremely well. Cropping also was a good idea, since you cannot really see her face so well anyway - cropping closer makes her face more of a focal point.
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing shot and if I had taken it, I'd be very proud :-)
See you next Monday at Photo Feedback!
